Traditional Coloring Techniques for Zines (with Evan Hicks!)

You don’t need to know Procreate to give your zines a layer of vintage, hand-made intrigue. Learn the layering techniques used by newspaper printers, children’s book illustrators, manga artists, and screen printers to plan layers of colors and gray tones in a world before Photoshop and Procreate.
“Workin’ It, The Professional Practice of Small Scale Publishing”

This audience discussion session will explore strategies on how to build an integrated creative and professional practice; actively publishing your work, and the work of others, while holding down a complementary career.
Our panelists are all active in publishing, production, and distribution of zines and comics and have developed their complimentary skill sets to both advance their publishing practice and their creative careers

Unique Zine Construction and Papercraft! (With Scaredlittlebug)

Learn ways to break the mold of the typical minizine, alterations that catch attention, alternate folds+cuts, where to find inspiration. I’ve done a lot of variations on minizines that I can talk about (folding minizines within minizines, microzines, cutting shorter covers so there are tabs that peek out), spiral zines, mobius strips, weird-shaped zines inspired by product packaging.

The Denver Zine Library is a non profit organization founded in 2003 whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote the culture of zines and self published original work through archival collection, workshops and events. The organization is entirely volunteer run, and the public can access the full library and archives during open hours.

RiNo Art District (RAD) is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to supporting artists, creative businesses, and community through arts and cultural programming. The Shop at MATTER is made for revolutionaries, activists, change-makers, and other thinking persons. They are focused on the fiction and non-fiction works of Black, brown, queer, feminist, and other intentionally unruly, non-binary, pluralistic, intersectional identities. This is another liberatory project from the designers Rick Griffith & Debra Johnson at MATTER.
