Nevada is the darkly comic story of Maria Griffiths, a young trans woman living in New York City and trying to stay true to her punk values while working retail. When she finds out her girlfriend has lied to her, the world she thought she’d carefully built for herself begins to unravel, and Maria sets out on a journey that will mostly certainly change her life forever.
Imogen Binnie, author, activist, and musician is releasing her first novel, Nevada, with Topside Press this Spring. She writes a monthly column for Maximum Rocknroll, as well as the zines The Fact That It’s Funny Doesn’t Make It A Joke and Stereotype Threat. Her work has appeared in Aorta magazine, The Skinny, PrettyQueer, and the Topside Press anthology The Collection: Short Fiction from the Transgender Vanguard. She is emerging as a incisively intelligent and startlingly vital queer voice in today’s literary landscape.
Novelist Michelle Tea writes,
“This book blew my mind. It’s everything – personal, political, funny, raw, hyper-brainy and down to earth. . . A really powerful new literary voice. I’m really excited about Imogen Binnie!”
Daphne Gottlieb, contemporary poet, writes,
“Nevada has jackhammered the men-only genre of the great American road novel into bits, and gives us instead truth like scraped knuckles, exhilaration, and the terror of possibility. Put the hammer down. Read this.”

********** Xena, the magical zine vending machine **********
As you already know, the DZL now co-owns a vending machine for selling zines! It is housed at Lowbrow and is pretty amazing. You can check it out anytime Lowbrow is open – Monday through Saturday from 10-7 and Sunday from 12-8 at 250 Broadway, Denver CO.
****** T-shirts and Tote Bags for Sale! ******
We still have a handful of t-shirts left and some brand new tote bags, now in red and gold options! They’re all $10 each!
****** Looking for volunteers ******
Do you have a few hours to spare once a month? The Denver Zine Library is looking for volunteers! Help keep the DZL open on weekends, learn how to catalog donated zines in our database, plan a fundraiser, and/or bring your brilliant ideas! E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a 30-minute orientation.
********** Visit during open hours! **********
The Denver Zine Library is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-3pm at the 27 Social Centre (2727 W. 27th Avenue). Have you seen our new space since we moved to the front of the building with the Denver Community Health Collective? Come check us out, read some zines and borrow some zines to read at home!
